Trademark Thinking

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
-Colossians 3:2 (King James Version)

Where do you place your affections? Is it on the things of this earth, or the things of God? Let's explore?

We read this in First John 2:15, " Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." John is teaching us a valuable lesson. He tells us not to love the world or the things that are in the world. What does he mean by this? We are not to love the things of the world. He goes on, in verse 16, "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." He's talking about the world of sin. Did you ever think about sin having a world of its own? Sin has it's own lusts and pride, and those things don't belong to God, they belong to the world. That is what we are to not love, the lust and pride of the world of sin. Those are not the trademarks of God, or of the Christian. Verse 17 tells us what will happen to these trademarks of the world, " And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." These things, the lusts and pride of the world of sin, will pass away. They will be gone, and gone forever.

But, verse 17 gives us a great promise, "but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." The will of God is to overcome the sin nature and world of sin that is in our lives. The person who has their mind set on the things of God (Colossians 3:2), and not on the things of this world, will abide forever. You can only do that by submitting your life to Him. Have you accepted Jesus? Are you living with your mind set on the things of God?
