The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
-John 10:10 (KJV)
Yesterday, we studied how, for the Christian, the old life of sin has passed away, and we have a new life with Christ. Think, again, of that word "new." Just thinking about that word brings feelings of excitement. March 23, 2013 brings us a "new" season of Dollywood. That, for me, brings feelings of excitement. Think of Christmas morning. The gifts wrapped under the tree brings a feeling of excitement. The word, "new" brings feelings of excitement to our lives because the feeling is that something "new" means something better, something bigger, something fantastic.
Jesus said this, in John 10:10, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." The thief, referring to satan, comes to steal, kill & destroy. How many things in our lives have we allowed him to steal, to kill and to destroy. How many relationships, how many friendships, how many "new" things that God was providing for us? The devil doesn't come to bring us anything that is good, he comes to tear down. Just look at the words that Jesus uses here: steal, kill, destroy. What kind of feelings do these words bring? Sorrow, fear, hurt, sadness. These are the opposite of the feelings brought by the word "new." Jesus, on the other hand, comes so that we "might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
So, what will you have in your life. Will you allow satan to steal, kill and destroy your life? Or will you give your life to Jesus, and allow Him to give you eternal life, and that life abundantly?
