Clothed With a Cloud

Help me to see You more clearly, Lord, as I focus on these Scriptures


"I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. And a rainbow was on his head, his face was like the sun, and his feet like pillars of fire. He had a little book open in his hand. And he set his right foot n the sea and his left foot on the land, and cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars ..." (Revelation 10:1-3)


The word "angel" literally means "messenger." We see God's mighty angelic messenger, who is actually the Lord Jesus Christ. All of the characteristics John uses to describe this angel are qualities he earlier attributed to the risen Lord. We see the cloud of His Shekinah glory (Revelation 1:7), the rainbow from around the throne (4:3), His radiant countenance (1:16), and His feet like molten brass (1:15). This can be none other than our wonderful Saviour!


In His hand is an open book picturing the seven-sealed scroll, the title deed to the earth (Revelation 5:1). All of the seals are now open. Jesus is coming to claim what is His by right of creation, Calvary and conquest. He is coming to take possession of this earth.


He puts one foot firmly upon the land and the other upon the sea. This signifies that - from pole to pole, from sea to sea, to the ends of the earth - every drop of water and every grain of sand belong to Jesus! Not only has He redeemed our souls, but He's coming also to redeem creation.


And He isn't coming quietly. Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, suffered in silence when He paid redemption's price (Isaiah 53:7). But now the Lion of Judah Who has prevailed will let out a mighty roar as He comes to take vengeance upon His enemies. God is announcing that time has run out for those who have stubbornly spurned His love and mercy. And they will get the message, loud and clear.
