Revealed

Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding. Proverbs 4:6-7 NKJV

Widsom will preserve and keep you.  Did you notice its conditional?  We must not forsake wisdom and we must love wisdom, then we are preserved and kept.  God’s Word is like that in many places:
  • Mark 11:26 says “But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.”
  • Jeremiah 29:13 says “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
  • 1 John 4:21 says “And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.”
Wisdom comes from God.  We are told in James 1:5 to ask for it if we don’t have it.  With wisdom comes understanding of God, of sin and our condition before God. That is a very humbling experience, being made aware of our condition before God.  That’s what wisdom does.  It provides a clear perspective of how things really are.

In all your getting, get understanding.  Getting is a normal thing.  We get presents on birthdays and some holidays.  We get diplomas when we graduation school.  We get a job.  Maybe we get a promotion.  Or maybe we get married.  These are all very normal types of getting.  But there’s more than physical getting.  There’s a spiritual getting that requires effort and self-discipline. We are told, like the son from the father, get understanding.

The Bible tells us in various places understanding is revealed to us by God Himself.
  • Deuteronomy 29:29 says “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
  • 1 Samuel 3:7 says “Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, nor was the word of the LORD yet revealed to him.”
  • Psalm 98:2 says “The LORD has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.”
  • Matthew 16:17 says “Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.”
  • Colossians 1:26 says “the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints.”
So as you study the Word of God, seeking His treasures of wisdom and understanding, know you will receive what you seek as it is revealed by the Lord.  Persevere in the study of God’s Word.  He will reveal what you need at the appropriate time.
Lord, thank you for your word.  Thank you for revealing just what we need when we need it.  Help us to desire your truth and seek it every day.  Enable us to live by your truth so the world may see you through our lives.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
